The Exit Plan

 In Goals

I woke up this morning invigorated with an attitude of gratitude, put my music on and went on my way to create my 2014 plan. My mind immediately went to an experience with Brett, my former boss and someone I now call a friend and confidant.

When Brett hired me I was very direct and told him, “I’m coming in with an exit plan and I’m out at fifty.” He was on board and got it. I was 41 at the time and had adopted a CEO’s mindset years earlier after reading a book called, How to Become CEO by Jeffrey J. Fox.

My attitude back then became, I am the CEO of my own life and if the most successful CEO’s have an exit strategy, so should I!

With this mindset, I went forth on my journey with KTAR and all was good. Like any work environment, you go through your ups and downs, twists and turns, and I loved playing a role on the team and being a part of a great organization with great people.

I started to experience what I call “life happen moments” and in 2012 I called off my engagement to Kevin. I was in the midst of a major health crisis and in March 2013 Brett decided to leave the company and execute his own expansion plan.

This was the tri-fecta I needed to make my decision and implement my 50 year plan at the ripe young age of 47. I was in a position to do this because when creating my plans I always leave room for those life happen moments. My plans are fluid, clear and I always leave room for gray.

We all experience life happen moments and I have been one to embrace the journey and use my intuition to guide me which has always served me well.

As you prepare your 2014 plan are you leaving room for your life happen moments? If you’re married or in a relationship, what role are you playing? The CEO or the COO? How are you working together to create the plan?

What tools and resources do you need to bring your plan into play? Do you need to shift or adopt a new mindset for 2014? If so, how are you going to do that? Let’s embrace the life happen moments and make 2014 our best year yet! Let’s do this!
