A Clean Sweep!

 In Branding

This week I had the honor and privilege of working with a mother and daughter.

For those of you who don’t know, I received my coaching certification almost 20 years ago. So our meeting was so much fun for me because I have not done one of these workshops since I lived in Scottsdale.

The mother and daughter had asked if I would put something together for them because they both wanted to lose weight and they are also in their own life transitions.

Mom is in a midlife transition, and the daughter is in college, working and saving money to move out on her own.

Therefore, weight gain was a symptom of something else.

Having studied the work of Louise Hay for 25 years I knew the emotional probable cause of gaining weight is oversensitivity and often represents fear and shows a need for protection. Fear may be a cover for hidden anger and a resistance to forgive.

Knowing this I created a BOLD Disney Princess theme.

We, women, are all princesses.

So I went on a mission, and I found Disney Princess backpacks that said, BOLD! I filled the Bold Backpack with a journal, a Faith Sticker, a trust the journey framed photo and a binder with our workshop material.

We opened the workshop with a conversation about the attributes of 4 Disney Princesses.

Jasmine is incredibly independent and strong. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, no matter who she’s up against, and won’t hesitate to stand up for what’s right. She is extremely compassionate and caring towards her kingdom, her family, and her friends.

Mulan is like a rare, beautiful flower that blossoms in the face of adversity, she proves her worth outside of her tradition-bound society and becomes a legendary warrior. Through courage, passion, and determination, she defies the odds and proves that anything is possible when you believe in yourself and find the courage to speak your mind.

Belle is passionate about reading, she cares for her family above all else, and she had trouble fitting in. She is open-minded, she prefers a night in versus a night on the town, she doesn’t rely on magic to save herself, she has no trouble speaking her mind, she is just as happy single as she is with a man (and she won’t settle for just any man) and she never backs down from what she believes in.

Ariel is a mermaid. She’s optimistic, always saw the bright side of things, even though her father tried to keep her from growing up. She’s always seeking out new adventures. Every thing Ariel does is an adventure. Her determination defines her, and once she sets her mind to reach the shore, she is unstoppable. She’s confident, she isn’t afraid to be herself around Prince Eric, she makes mistakes and doesn’t conform to gender roles.

The Mom and daughter started to light up. They got excited because they saw how they had the same attributes.

The conversation was flowing and then we went to the binder.

In their binders, I included a program called The Clean Sweep.

This is an assessment that helps them assess what is weighing them down.

There are four areas we focus on:

1. Physical Environment

2. Health & Emotional Balance

3. Money

4. Relationships

Once they completed the assessment, they tally up the scores. This help us assess what their needs are and determine what they want to clean up.

It’s a powerful coaching tool I have used for 20 years and can be used several times throughout your life.

What they both came to realize was weight wasn’t the issue.

I shared with them a little bit about my story with the weight fluctuation and how I know there is something else going on in my life when I gain weight.

We had so much fun during the 3 hours we spent together that when I was leaving, they asked if I would leave some of the BIG POST It sheets so they could continue to brainstorm.

What do you need to clean up in your life? Are you organized at home? Have things slipped through the cracks? Do you have a budget? Are you paying your bills on time? Are you limiting caffeine intake? Maybe it’s time to do your own clean sweep so you too can live a healthy and productive life! Come on, Let’s Do This!
