“The Power of Personality: Insights from Radio to Behavioral Health”

 In Branding

Many people have heard me say, “Working at Amen Clinics is a lot like working at a radio station.” This statement usually earns me a few puzzled looks and a “What are you talking about?”

Here’s what I mean: In radio, I had the privilege of working with some of the best on-air personalities in the business—Kidd Kraddick, Moby, W. Steven Martin, Tim and Willy, Beth and Bill, and countless other unforgettable voices.

Fast forward to my work in behavioral health, and I now have the privilege of working with extraordinary personalities who just happen to have “MD” after their names. Incredible individuals like Dr. Daniel Amen, Dr. Vernon Johnson, Dr. Kandace Licciardi, Dr. Neha Kansara, Dr. Peter Sangra, Dr. Maur Makwana, Dr. Stephanie Joseph, and 55 other remarkable doctors at Amen Clinics.

What do all these people have in common?
They are some of the kindest, most generous people I know. Whether they were lighting up the airwaves or transforming the lives of patients and communities, their impact is undeniable.

It all comes down to personality.

You’ve probably heard someone say, “They have a great personality,” or “I really like their personality.” But what does that actually mean?

What Is Personality?

Personality refers to the unique set of characteristics, behaviors, emotions, and thought patterns that define how an individual interacts with the world. It influences everything—how we respond to situations, build relationships, and express ourselves.

So, what makes someone’s personality “great”? Here are the Top 10 Attributes of a Good Personality:

  1. Warmth and Approachability
    • They make others feel welcome and at ease.
    • Their presence creates a safe and positive atmosphere for connection.
  2. Kindness and Empathy
    • They genuinely care about others’ feelings and perspectives.
    • Their compassion and consideration shine through.
  3. Sense of Humor
    • They lighten the mood and bring joy to any conversation.
    • Laughter follows them wherever they go.
  4. Positivity and Optimism
    • They focus on the brighter side of life.
    • Their uplifting energy is contagious.
  5. Confidence Without Arrogance
    • They inspire others with their self-assurance while remaining humble.
    • You feel at ease in their presence.
  6. Adaptability and Open-Mindedness
    • They embrace new ideas and experiences with curiosity.
    • Challenges are opportunities, not obstacles.
  7. Authenticity
    • They are genuine and true to themselves.
    • People trust and respect their honesty.
  8. Good Communication Skills
    • They’re great listeners and engaging speakers.
    • Others feel heard and understood.
  9. Reliability
    • They follow through on their commitments.
    • You know you can count on them.
  10. Inclusivity
  • They ensure everyone feels welcome and valued.
  • Their presence fosters connection and belonging.

Whether it’s in radio or healthcare, one thing remains true: personality matters. It’s what draws people in, builds relationships, and leaves a lasting impact.

So, how are you nurturing your personality? Which of these attributes can you strengthen to make a greater impact in your life and the lives of others?

I’ll leave you with a quote from Dr. Daniel Amen:

“Your personality is deeply influenced by the health of your brain. When your brain works right, you think right, feel right, and act in ways that align with the best version of yourself.”

Cheers to you and the journey of developing your personality!

XOXO Lisa Marie
